Why does reinfection sometimes occur after root canal treatment? — Addressing the “invisible causes”

Because root canal treatment involves removing the tooth’s nerve, many people assume “once treatment is finished, the problem is solved.” In reality, even after root canal treatment, a tooth can become reinfected and require retreatment for several reasons:

A maxillary right anterior tooth that had been told to be extracted at another clinic had an apical lesion. Using precise, microscope-assisted surgical root canal treatment, we were able to save the tooth. Normally, non-surgical retreatment often requires replacing the crown after treatment; because we did a surgical approach in this case, the existing crown could be retained and used as it was.
