皆さんこんにちは、[東京国際歯科六本木]診療部チームのMasaです。本日の診療中に、患者さんから歯磨剤（歯磨き粉）について質問がありましたので、今回は歯磨剤の成分について少しお話ししたいと思います。

フッ化物（フッ素ではないですよ。フッ素は猛毒です！）だけじゃない！歯磨き粉に含まれる様々な成分

歯磨き粉に含まれる成分として、フッ化物が歯に良いということは、皆さんご存知かと思います。しかし、それ以外の成分についてはどうでしょうか？ 歯磨き粉の成分表を見てみると、恐らく知らない単語がずらりと並んでいるのではないでしょうか？

代表的な成分とその役割を解説

今日は、歯磨き粉に含まれる代表的な成分と、その役割についてご紹介したいと思います。

• 清掃剤（研磨剤）： プラークやステインなど、歯の表面の汚れを落とす役割があります。リン酸水素カルシウム、水酸化アルミニウム、無水ケイ酸、炭酸カルシウムなどが代表的です。
• 湿潤材： 歯磨き粉に適度な湿り気と可塑性を与える役割があります。グリセリン、ソルビトールなどがよく使われます。
• 発泡剤： 口の中に歯磨き粉を拡散させ、汚れを除去するのを助けます。ラウリル硫酸ナトリウムが一般的です。
• 粘結剤： 粉体と液体成分を結合させ、歯磨き粉の形状を保ち、適度な粘性を与えます。カルボキシメチルセルロースナトリウム、アルギン酸ナトリウム、カラギーナンなどが使用されます。
• 香味剤： 歯磨き粉の味と香りを調整し、爽快感を与え、歯磨きへの抵抗感をなくす効果があります。サッカリンナトリウム、メントール、ミント類などが使われます。
• 保存料： 歯磨き粉の変質を防ぐ役割があります。安息香酸ナトリウム、パラベン類などが使われています。

Hello everyone, Masa here from the clinical team at [Tokyo International Dental Clinic Roppongi]. During a consultation today, a patient asked me about toothpaste, so I thought I’d talk a little about toothpaste ingredients this time.

It’s not just Fluoride (it’s not Fluorine, Fluorine is highly toxic!). Various ingredients in toothpaste.

I think everyone knows that fluoride is good for teeth as an ingredient in toothpaste. But what about the other ingredients? If you look at the ingredient list of toothpaste, you’ll probably see a lot of words you don’t know, right?

Explanation of Typical Ingredients and Their Roles

Today, I would like to introduce you to the typical ingredients contained in toothpaste and their roles.

• Cleaning Agent (Abrasive): Plays a role in removing dirt from the surface of teeth, such as plaque and stains. Typical examples include calcium hydrogen phosphate, aluminum hydroxide, anhydrous silicic acid, and calcium carbonate.
• Humectant: Plays a role in giving toothpaste a proper amount of moisture and plasticity. Glycerin and sorbitol are often used.
• Foaming Agent: Helps to spread toothpaste in the mouth and remove dirt. Sodium lauryl sulfate is common.
• Binder: Combines powder and liquid ingredients to maintain the shape of the toothpaste and give it proper viscosity. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium alginate, carrageenan, etc. are used.
• Flavoring Agent: Adjusts the taste and aroma of the toothpaste, provides a refreshing sensation, and reduces resistance to brushing. Saccharin sodium, menthol, mints, etc. are used.
• Preservative: Plays a role in preventing toothpaste from deteriorating. Sodium benzoate, parabens, etc. are used.
